Basic Information:
WDM coupler, also known as a wavelength-dependent coupler or
wavelength combiner/splitter, is a fused-fiber-based passive
optical component in which two inputs at 1310nm and 1550nm
wavelengths from the two input ports are combined at one output
port. On the other hand, if these two signals are injected into the
same input port, they would separate out at the two outputs.
This Singlemode wavelength division multiplexer (WDM) 1310/1550nm,
1480/1550nm, 1X2, or 2X2 combine or separate light at different
wavelengths. They offer very low insertion loss, low polarization
dependence, high isolation, and excellent environmental stability.
These components have been extensively used in EDFA, CATV, WDM
networks, and fiber optics instrumentation.
